New Transmedia Sports Event "Hanukkah Hoops" Launches for the very first time in the Bay Area at Dream Courts in Hayward, CA before the first night of the holiday - TIP-OFF: December 20 (12.20.11)

Billed as a Basketball Tournament for the Rest of Us, and a true tournament for the ages, this "all Races and Religions are welcome" competition will take place DECEMBER 20-24 (www.dreamcourts.com) and will also be a prelude to next year's 12-12-12 competition planned for 12 markets (starting the 4th night of Hanukkah 2012)

COST FOR A TEAM TO ENTER TOURNAMENT: $180 (per TEAM)
$48 - for every team that enters, this amount will be donated to CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS

A team may consist of 8-15 players; if you do not have a team on which to play, then reasonable efforts will be made to place you on a team (NOTE: *subject to change: your individual payment to be on a team would then presumably be determined by the number of players on that created team if we can accommodate this arrangement.)

Opening Night Ceremonial Hanukkah Candle Lighting - Tuesday, DEC 20 - prelude to the event

DEC 20 (tournament starts the day of the first night of Hanukkah candle lighting, to be completed by DEC 24)

DEC 20-23 (bulk of tourney games; trick shot shootout - FT contest, Timeline / Half Court shots)

DEC 24 Event Ends this Day -- 4th day / 5th night of Hanukkah (ends before Christmas Eve)

SIGNED FORMS: INSURANCE / LIABILITY / RIGHT TO BE VIDEO/PHOTOGRAPHED / WAIVER FORMS will need to be signed before players can play (no exceptions)

The Magic Numbers: 8, 18, 48

(8 nights and days of Hanukkah, but there are 9 candle spaces due to "shamus" candle)

48 = Israel became a state in 1948 (this is also the last time the Cubs made it to World Series)

18 = Chai (pronounced "Hi") - symbol of life; part of the Jewish toast for wine; on gold necklaces

CAVEAT 1:

GIRLS can be on any TEAM. This does NOT need to be MEN and BOYS only - like pickup games.
Women are welcome; Girls can play with Boys. Women can play with Men.

CAVEAT 2: There must be at least 1 Jewish Person (Minimum) per Team (there are no exceptions).

The Event Organizer will make all final decisions * subject to change.
